My theme and focus for October

It's that time of the month again - to reflect on our recent theme, and consider what to focus on going forward.

My September theme was the word REAL, and this is something I very consciously embodied and practiced privately and personally. Being REAL is something I just want to be, not broadcast. I don't need validation for it, I don't need to explain it - it just is for me. To read more about my thoughts in picking REAL as my September theme, please see this blog article - HERE.

The new month of October is right on our doorstep and I've known for at least a couple of weeks what my theme will be, and it is SPIRITUALITY. Funnily enough our Pillar of Light Family chose this as our group theme too - so it will be a big focus across the board.

My reasons for choosing it as my personal theme was because I thought I wasn't acknowledging or practicing my spirituality enough. However over the past couple of days, upon self-exploration I realised I am living it more than I thought - it is interwoven into my daily life.

So I will be looking at understanding my spiritual side more this month through practising exercises, meditation and reflection. I want to shine it and radiate it within all of my creations, thoughts, words and actions.

WHAT IS SPIRITUALITY?

The dictionary says that spirituality is: the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.

I don't necessarily feel this is true for me, because rather than the spiritual and physical opposing each other, I think of them as complementing each other - working together in unison.

I think of spirituality as being a very personal thing. Perhaps based around our own beliefs, values, thoughts on spirit / the Creator / the afterlife etc, our culture may influence what our spirituality is, as well as our family or upbringing.

Some people think of spirituality connecting purely with the 'church' - yet I would not entirely agree with that, for I feel being religious and being spiritual can be different things.

I don't feel there is any right or wrong way. I wouldn't want everyone to believe my spiritual preferences, and I wouldn't want to be pushed or persuaded to believe another persons beliefs on it. Instead I would LOVE us to accept our own, and accept other people's - and still get along.

Too many wars have been started and lives have been lost in the name of religion or spirituality.

What are your thoughts on this? Will you focus on a theme for October? If so, what will it be? How will you embody, learn and improve who you are with this focus?

If you're not sure what to focus on for your theme, perhaps consider what you've been struggling with lately, or have been curious about - and see if you can point it back to a word or two which can become a focal point this coming month.
